A DO is a Doctor of Osteopathy -- this traditionally has involved a more holistic approach to health and illness and DO learn spinal manipulation in school -- or at least they used to. Today, there really is very little distinction between an MD and DO. One is no better than the other, both are licensed by the state and often, DOs do MD residency programs.
