Adhesions are a serious problem, and it is difficult to prevent them from recurring. There are some things that can be done at the time of surgery, but as for what you can do yourself, I am afraid that there is not too much. The most common cause of stomach swelling is bloating, generally due to diet. Edema is another potential cause. You will have to ask your doctor which of these applies to you.
