Stuck in early laborFrom: Toni (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 22 May 2000 20:40:22 -0500 (CDT)
I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my first baby. For the past 3 weeks I've had contractions for days at a time. Each time I wait for a while to see what happens and then call the dr who has me go to the L&D unit to be checked and monitored. Last week the contractions starting getting a lot harder and closer together. I'm dialated to 1.5 cm and have been for over a week now. At the L&D unit I was told that I'm in early labor and it could take days to progress. Over the past few days the contractions have gotten a lot harder. Last night my husband called the dr because I was laying on our bed curled into a ball in tears because the pain was so bad. When I got to L&D I was told that I still haven't dialated anymore and my cervix is still thick. The contractions show up on the monitors and everything else looks fine. Apparently I'm just not thinning out to dialate. And the dr who was on call flat out refused to do anything to help push things along no matter how much pain I'm in. So now I'm at home and still having contractions every 3-4 minutes. If I don't move around they space out to about 4 minutes, but as soon as I get up and even walk to the bathroom the contractions start getting closer together. They are still just as intense as they were last night, even after I was given Peragoric. Basically right now I'm just wondering if there is anything else I can do that may help make this bearable. I can understand that I'm 3 weeks early and the baby should stay put for as long as possible, but with this pain the way it is I can't sleep, I can't eat without being nauseated, and I'm just completely miserable. Other women in my family have had simialar situations where they begin to dialate and then stop. Could this be a family thing that I need a push to get things going, or what? I just feel like I'm completely losing my mind right now.
