Amnio statisticsFrom: Carolyn (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 6 May 2000 19:41:00 -0500 (CDT)
While I understand that this is a somewhat volitile question, I'm wondering if there are any statistics on women, who chose to go thru amnios initially saying that they just wanted to know if there was anything wrong(with terminating not being an option for them), and when the amnio came back with a less than favorable result, decided to terminate the pregnancy. I cannot FATHOM a Dr asking a patient this before the procedure and I suspect that someone is offering false info on a newsgroup with regard to this subject (claiming that 80% of women who SAY they wouldn't terminate if there was a problem DO when an amnio shows a problem). To be honest, she's written this several times and I suspect she's pulling these statistics from...ahem...someplace more anatomically related then medically, but wanted to know if the Dr knew of some where I might dispute these "statistics". Thanks.
