I work directly with midwives in my town, and also OB's who range from very high risk, to very low risk. Each one will give a potential VBAC birth its own individualized consideration. The risk your Dr. is referring to is uterine rupture at the old incision sight, which is very rare (the current research states approx. >.1%) I personally believe very few Dr's have seen an actual complete rupture, but because they have heard about it, read about it,etc., they see it as a potentially dangeroug situation. I will tell you what I tell every couple I work with, trust your heart, and your body-and if this is a very important issue for you, find a care provider who also believes in this-every woman deserves the chance to deliver her own baby. There is some wonderful literature on the subject, as well as support groups who have more current statistics than me (ICAN-International Cesarean Awareness Network). Pick up the book "Silent Knife," or "The VBAC Companion," & read of the many success stories-I personally see them constantly in my little neck of the woods-regardless of maternal age or babies' size. If this is something you feel very strongly about, you are not alone, and support is out there! Best of luck to you! Angela
