Clomid Days

What is the reasoning behind prescribing Clomid on different days? I've seen days 5-9 most often, followed by 3-7, then 4-8, then 2-6. Is this purely a certain dr.'s preference or does it have anything to do with a woman's personal cycle?

Has there been any research on which days produce better success rates?
