Earliest survival Dr Lynn?From: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 26 Apr 2000 15:25:43 -0500 (CDT)
I really want to know the answer to this question and perhaps I am just asking to torture myself over and over. I have had a couple of losses at 21 weeks and 23 weeks due to an incompetent cervix. My 23 week loss was 6 yrs ago at a level 3-4? neonate hospital and they did not recesitate(sp?) the baby. We were told at the time the baby was just too early to survive as the lungs were only buds at that time. My husband had no issue with that decision at the time but now I find myself getting upset. Since the loss over and over I am reading and seeing news shows and actually lurked on a few preemie forums that make claims their baby was born at 22-23 weeks of pregnancy (not gestational) and not only survived but are intact. I am frustrated by this even though I know different hospitals have different capabilities to help babies. What is the EARLIEST that you know of around the country that a baby born early has survived. My Drs have told me (to try and reassure me I know) that these woman who claim their baby was 22-23 weeks (20 and 21 gestational)and survived have wrong dates. I'd like to believe it but these woman are insistent about dates especailly where I have read. I have called a few hospitals myself and they say 24 weeks is where they start but somewhere it must be earlier? Thanks in advance
