High Altitude PregnancyFrom: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 Mar 2000 20:17:24 -0600 (CST)
I live at 9600'. I've been told that the national (US) average for miscarriages is 1 out of 5 women miscarry. At my altitude, I've heard the number changes dramatically to 1 in 2. If this is indeed true, what effects does high altitude have upon a developing fetus? (I know newborns are usually of low birth weight) My concern arises from the fact that my first pregnancy is currently ending at 7 weeks with no heartbeat echoes showing, that I'm 39 and DES-exposed. The big question is, of course, am I foolish to try to get pregnant while living at this altitude?
