Lisa,

I had a c-section with my daughter in March 95. It was an awful experience and when they offered my a cs after 36 horrible hours of labor I jumped for joy. The recovery was long and hard. When I got pregnant again I was determined to have a vbac. I had a child at home and wanted to the experience of having a baby vaginally. I sought out an OB that I trusted. I developed a birth plan I was comfortable with and discussed it with my OB. I ensured that I took a copy with my to the hospital. My husband and I (like the first time I was pg) rented videos on different relaxation methods during labor and practiced them. My husband also read the book "Birth Partner" which turned out to be a worthwhile investment as nothing can replace a actively supportive partner......Have you thought of a midwife or doula that can be your advocate? Just having someone there to speak for you if you can't, who knows your wishes, can allow you to relax and concentrate on having your baby. I had my baby May'99 (2 wks late) and ended up with a forceps delivery that when just fine. I have no regrets. If we decide to have another baby, I will again try vaginally. The recovery was so much easier. And I got to see my sweetheart being born!

Don't think about all the horror stories. There are some for cs too. What is it about people who tell such horrible stories to you when you are pg? I found that too.

Good luck....you can do it!
