Re: ? with pregnancy#2, would like dr marchbeins opinion please as well as anyone elsesFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 12 Mar 2000 16:18:24 -0600 (CST)
Michelle, I don't think there are any written rules for second babies as to size, ease of delivery, etc. It would stand to follow logical reasoning that delivery #2 would be easier than delivery #1 but part of that would be psychological as well as physiological. Not only has your body been through the process before but so has your mind and with #1 no stack of books is really going to prepare you 100% for what it is really like and what to expect, with #2, you have the knowledge from the classes and books as well as first-hand experience. You know what to expect when and you'll be calmer and more prepared the second time around. My firstborn was 8 lb 12 oz. His little sister followed 4 years later at 9 lbs. with a shorter labor (by 15 hours) and easier delivery so the "rule" about bigger being tougher is not etched in stone. Good luck to you!!
