i can imagine how difficult it was for you. amazing how different it is in other places! in the larger city 60 miles away the nicu encourages breastfeeding to the max. my husband works there and we discuss birth a great deal). when i had my son by c-sec and asked to nurse my son on demand i got a great deal of guff from the nurses about needing my rest and not being capable of caring for my baby. they gave him bottles frequently rather than bring him to me. fortunately he was a great nurser and didnt suffer any of the 'nipple confusion' i had kept hearing about. i was able to nurse him for six months.

six weeks after my son was born i had kidney stones and wound up in the same hospital on demerol and suffering from dehyration. the nurses on THAT floor were fantastic with me. i couldnt give my son my breast milk because of the demerol, but they brought in an electric breast pump for me and helped me figure it out so i could keep my milk supply going. i intend to get hold of an electric breast pump for hen i go back to work with my next baby. it was WONDERFUL!!!!!
