At our hospital moms are strongly encouraged and helped by nurses consultents, etc. to pump breast milk for their babies in NICU.

My $.02 - I know the above because my good friend's baby's lung collapsed immediately after he was born. There were no prior indications, nothing on u/s, no familiy history, etc. Sometimes this condition corrects itself and is no big deal. Not this case though. This baby would not have survived an ambulance drive from either another hospital or home. He spent 2 weeks in NICU and my friend pumped (with help from the nurses) the entire time.

I have no problems with women who choose home births. I think everyone should be able to make their own decisions. I, however, plan to be at our hospital with its NICU. I know I would not be able to live with myself if I thought I somehow contributed to a preventable death or injury to my child. . . -Sarah edd#1 8/15
