Hello. After having my first child 4 yrs ago, I also noticed a very
strong foul odor. I had an episiotomy (sp?) along with 3rd degree
tears, so needless to say I had several stitches. My worst symptom
however was severe pain in the vagina. As the days after birth passed,
the worse I felt. It honestly hurt to sit, and even worse to stand up.
When I called the Dr. and told him I had the pain along w/ the terrible
odor, he told me to come right in for a checkup, where he found that a
sponge had been left up inside my vagina at the time of delivery. This
had therefore set up an awful infection. I was put on antibiotics.
Because of the 3rd degree tears, I had been instructed to do sitz baths
starting the morning after the delivery day. Though they were very
uncomfortable at first, I think they did seem to help a little.
