Mary Shoup's post was excellent and I highly recommend it. The answer to your question about age 35 is that the stats are for women who deliver AT age 35 - period. The risk is a gradual increase. The reason for age 35 is that the risk of genetic abnormality and the risk of pregnancy loss are about equal at age 35.
