after ChildbirthFrom: Jammie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 29 Feb 2000 16:26:00 -0600 (CST)
Well it finally happened. On Friday I finally had my baby! He was head up rather than down which caused labor to be longer (started bleeding at 3am, hurting at 7am, and had him at 9:04 pm). He was 8 lbs, and 10.8 ounces 23 inches long. He managed to get quite a bruise on his forhead from the pushing efforts made to get him out and because of his position. My question is, My first child which I had seven years ago, after having him I bled HEAVY for about 5 weeks, then started my period and bled another 4 weeks. It's been 4 days since I've had this one and I am slacking off a lot on the bleeding. It has gone from red to pink, and has some yellow in it as well. But what concerns me mostly is that the smell of the discharge is overwelming. Is it supposed to have a nasty smell? And if so, How can I help to make it a little more tolerable since I obviously can't douche and am not supposed to get a tub bath of any sort for a few weeks. I use the orange medication (liquid) the hospital gave me to prevent infection as well as a spray each time I urinate to keep any infection from occuring. Also!!! I can't remember who it was that said they wanted to know about breastfeeding and the Depo shot but I found out that you can breastfeed and have the Depo shot. You just have to wait until your milk has been established well to be sure that you can breastfeed adequately. I, however, opted out of breastfeeding because I was anemic at delivery, and was not producing much of anything, and my son acted like he was starving to death. He immediately took to the formula and has been eating non stop ever since. I'd like to thank everyone for their help through all this the past few weeks too. They have been rough but I think things will start getting better now. And for all those pregnant woman out there....GOOD LUCK and it is definately worth it! JDS
