Re: 16 year old soon to be mother, seeks truth of natral child birthFrom: Nancy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 29 Feb 2000 15:05:33 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I very much enjoyed a nearly painless labor with an epidural, but admire those who want to try to give birth naturally. The one thing I've found sad at times with my patients planning to give birth naturally (I'm a nurse) is how disappointed people get when they "give in" and have an epidural. It seems there's nothing you can say to take away their feeling of failure. This makes me sad. I think it is good to go in with the attitude that you're going to do it natural if you can and have an open mind about an epidural. Why bring in feelings of failure to such a wonderful experience! Best of luck to you. You are very smart to be educating yourself. I also recommend going to a breastfeeding class while you are pregnant. Preferably with a support person who might be able to help you after the baby is born. For some it is an effortless process....but not the case for some of us other folks!
