methotrexate treatment and HCG levels

I have an ectopic pregnancy (7 weeks LMP) and was given methotrexate to treat it. Due to my rising HCG levels the family doctor seeing me has no hope that the methotrexate treatment has worked. He thought that surgery would be the next step and referred me to an OB-GYN. To our great surprise... This morning the Ob-gyn said that there was in fact some hope and that the treatment might be working. Here are my HCG levels: Monday Feb. 21 - 4000, Wednesday Feb 23 - 7300 and Monday Feb. 28 - 18000. I was given the MTX on Friday Feb.25 and my HCG levels were not taken on this day. We are waiting until Thursday to repeat the betaHCG and I'm sure that this will give us more information. In the meantime, all this waiting is torture. Can someone please tell me if there's any hope at all that the MTX has worked?
