Methotrexate is a chemotherapy medication that is now probably the standard of care for the management of early, unruptered ectopic pregnancies. It is safe, effective, avoids the need for potentially dangerous surgery, and is more likely to leave you with a normal Fallopian tube than is surgery. It will be very similar to a miscarriage, though you may have more abdominal pain than before. Methotrexate can impact your bone marrow temporarily, so your doctor will be checking to make sure that you are still making enough white cells. I have had a number of patients that have had both the Methotrexate and laproscopic surgery for ectopics. They are univeral in their preference for the Methotrexate. I am sorry that you are in this position. Good luck!
