The day before I had my first daughter, I had to have a BPP (biophysical profile) done. So, I had my US at a hospital (typically better equipment than a doctor's office) complete with a US tech and a radiologist. They estimated my daughter to be approximatly 6.5 lbs. When I gave birth to her the next day, she was just of 8 lbs (7#, 15 oz)! So, in my experience, take the US weight estimate as just that - an estimate, to be taken with a grain of salt.
