Pregnancy and noncompliance with taking Synthroid.From: Michelle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 12 Feb 2000 14:37:12 -0600 (CST)
I just recently found out that I am pregnant (around a month). I have a history of previous thyroid problems (discovered during my first pregnancy nearly six years ago), and had a partial thyroidectomy a little over three years ago. I was taking Synthroid 88 mcg up until approximately three months ago. Since that time, I have been in noncompliance. I stopped taking the drug completely and have not returned to see my doctor. My questions are many. Now that I am pregnant, what should I do? If I don't take the Synthroid, am I in danger of miscarrying? If I start to take Synthroid now after three months of noncompliance, will I endanger the baby? I know I should return to the doctor, but I am not sure whether I should go before my first prenatal appointment with my OB or wait and talk to the OB to find out what I should do and let him work it out with my other doctor. Any advice would be gratefully accepted. Thank you.
