We generally do not offer amniocentesis until age 35, when the risks of the amniocentesis are roughly equal with the risks of Down's syndrom. With the developement of better U/S techniques, many women chose to forego amnio with "normal" U/S, though the U/S will miss up to 30% of this condition.
