When consulting an obstetrician, this can be discussed. the variables are many. There are some statisitcally static risks like genetic abnormalities at a specific age, Down's syndrome specifically at various ages, etc. But then there are some age dependent variables in other categories, like diabetes in pregnancy, hypertension in pregnancy, micarriage rate and the list goes on. Too old is when you're not ovulating and/or no longer willing to take the increased risks of the increased percentage of problems as noted above.
