Protein in urine, possible PIH?From: Jody (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 29 Jan 2000 20:51:45 -0600 (CST)
I wish I had gotten checked! I ended up in the L&D unit on the 10th with severe vaginal bleeding. After an u/s, it turned out to be due to an abruption of one of the placentas. I have been in the hospital ever since and I have no idea when I will be able to go home. My OB says that the cough probably didn't cause the abruption, but it couldn't have helped anything. I now have yet another question (so sorry to keep bothering you). I have chronic hypertension and am considered to be at a high risk of developing PIH because of carrying twins. While I have been in the hospital, my blood pressures have been incredibly low, ranging from 130/60 to 100/47. I assumed that meant I was not developing PIH, but now I am passing protein in my urine. With my previous pregnancy, I did indeed have PIH and was on bed rest, which caused my bp to remain within normal levels. Is it possible that I do indeed have PIH but my bp is being controlled by the enforced bed rest? If so, are there any other effects on my body and the babies? I also have ketones in my urine. Is it possible that I am developing gestational diabetes? Despite all of these worries, I just wanted to say that I am 28 weeks now and Baby A is 2 lbs. 8 oz. and Baby B is 2 lbs. 13 oz.
