Re: determining sex on ultrasoundFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 27 Jan 2000 18:54:22 EST
I am a registerd diagnostic medical sonographer....in other words a certified ultrasound practicioner. In my experience the best time to do a routine ultrsound is between 18-20 weeks. All the organs are well visualized at that time (4 ch heart, outflow tracts, stomach, bladder, kidneys, 3 vessel cord) and the measurements to check for nuchal thickening (Down's) or choroid/vent size recommend an u/s between 18-20 weeks. I would find out if there facility has an ARDMS (American Registery of DIagnostic Medical Sonographers) preforming their ultrasound exams. If you're going to pay for an ultrasound you should make sure the person performing it is certified. There is a HUGE descrepancy in the abilities and performance of various ultrasound facilities. This is one way to help weed out bad facilities. Good luck! Audrey
