Actually, you are not really at any increased risk over the average population for miscarriage, though I can certainly understand that your experiences have made you cautious.

A "threatened miscarriage" is the term used to describe a pregancy in which there is cramping and slight bleeding prior to 20 weeks gestation. Most do not miscarry at all. Those pregnancies that go on to term do not contribute to your statistical risk of additional miscarriage. In other words, they are scary, but do not really have any implications for future pregnancy.

Most people do not realize that somewhere around 25-33% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage in the first trimester, perhaps more depending on how early you begin testing. When you think of how complicated conception and pregnancy are, I am awed and amazed that anyone ever gets pregnant. Having one miscarriage does not effect your risk of subsequent miscarriage, and in particular, the "missed" miscarriage is almost always the result of a chromosomal abnormality of the fetus that prevents even early developement. This event is random, leaving your future risk of miscarrige identical to your original risk, ie, 25-33%.
