Dr Marchbein - re: alt ways of turning breechFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 7 Jan 2000 22:14:44 -0600 (CST)
Hi Dr Marchbein I read with interest your response regarding the knee to chest - butt in the air method of turning a breech baby. My question has always been and no more than after my last baby - can't this cause some compression of the cord or enable the cord to become entangled. Because all of my babies have presented in odd ways due to the shape of my pelvis (roominess, some rude people might say!) I have been given all these odd exercises to do. For my posterior presenting babies I have been told to lie on my left side for 10 minutes then all fours for ten minutes, then right side for ten. It concerns me that three out of my five babies have had the cord around their necks and obvious my last little one had the cord very tightly around. How about ECV. Can that cause the cord to entangle? I know that some 40-45% of babies are born with the cord around their neck or wherever and are just fine. Could there be something about my physical makeup that encourages the cord to cause problems. This cord business now really scares the daylights out of me. I am currently 10 weeks pregnant and will have an Elective Caesarean in light of previous problems. Many thanks Olivia
