I just wanted to write you all and say thank you and wish you all the best. We have many forums but in my heart this one is especially dear.

Ladies, I feel bad to have to put the forums to bed. They were one of the greatest things I have ever been involved in. It is really appreciated by me that you all seem to understand why this came to pass, although of course you are disappointed.

We all really tried time and again to get a pharmaceutical company to support them, but it is just too difficult because of FDA regulations and fear of lawsuits to get a company to take that kind of risk with a live and open forum. I can not even remember all the times the forum doctors wrote letters, Dr. Harvey made phone calls and talked to drug reps, and Barbara talked to companies with me trying to garner support.

Even with the dedicated doctors giving of their time the costs of computers, server space and mostly dedicated staff management is just too much for us time wise and financially. The forum volume has grown but our staff and resources have shrunk. Unfortunately we were overtaken by this eventually.

I would like to thank everyone who has been involved. The women who have chipped in to help other women, my husband Bruce Speyer who built the software that runs the forums and has been managing them for 7 years (sometimes no easy task!), my sister Barbara (it was originally her idea to start the WHF)and dear Lea who has been actively involved in keeping the daily posts on track and helping to keep the forums alive on a day to day basis.

We will continue to provide educational material in the form of articles and updates from medical meetings and hope you find it useful in the future. We are still here trying to provide information and make a difference in women's healthcare as best we can.

Most of all I want to thank the doctors who made the Women's Health and Pregnancy and Birth Forums possible. Dear Doctors, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You ARE what all us women think of when we think about what we would want in a physician in our own hometown... someone who is a highly skilled expert, but also a confident, a teacher, and a compassionate human being who really cares about women. You are all a credit to the profession and will long be remembered. Perhaps your legacy on the OBGYN.net Forums will live on longer than any of us can even imagine in the unknown future of the http://www.

I salute you: Harvey S. Marchbein, MD, FACOG, FACS R. Daniel Braun, M.D. Richard Chudacoff, MD, FACOG William D. McIntosh, MD Lynn Montgomery, MD M. Kelly Shanahan, MD, FACOG Garry E. Siegel, M.D. William F. von Almen, II, MD, FACOG Samir Mohamed Fouad Abdel Aziz, MD Bernard Cristalli, MD, CNGOF John Essien, MD Fabio Fiorino, MD Alicia Mabel Lapidus, MD Jessica Bardales Mitac, MD Asem AA Moussa, MD

And in the beginning there were others like Dr. Ashley Hill (it took a year before I realized he was a MAN! LOL) and others who gave of their time freely. If I have forgotten to mention anyone it is only because there were so many over the years it is hard to imagine it all ever really happened! Million upon millions of forum messages have been read around the world! Amazing.

I think I'll pour myself a Bailey's Irish Cream and go call my sister Barbara now and have a good talk about the old days when we first started the forums so long ago.

Love to you all, Roberta

Dear Roberta, I am sorry for the closing of the forums and like many of those helped by it, am greatful for this service and the time contributed by all. I've only been involved since June of this year and like so many others was surprised by the sudden closure of the forums and with so little notice. Even now, if you come upon the site you would have no idea that this forum is not open and there is no notice or referral to other sites where some groups have moved in haste. Women at the pregnancy & birth forum were willing to offer some sort of sponsership but there was little notice, we only found out about it because someone was on another forum and saw a farewell message from a doctor. While Lea confirmed the impending closure no explaination was giver nor options. I understand that the cost of sponsership, would be prohibitive by individual subscription and similar services exist, they exist without the unique format of these forums. I also understand why it is difficult to obtain sponsership by a pharmecutical company, it would seem that possibly some grants might be sought from governmental angencies or non-medical corporate sponser due to the internet aspects or an educational sponser? It would be a shame to see these doors close forever to new opportunities for education and support. Here are the links to where the pregnancy and birth forum has moved, if this could be posted so that people unaware of the recent events might still find some support and notify the doctors, some were still interested of this move.
