Spironolactone and PregnancyFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 26 Sep 2003 07:54:38 -0500 (CDT)
After 2 miscairages at 5 and 6 weeks and preterm labor at 22 weeks I have decided to move on to a Reproductive Endocrinologist instead of my regular OB/GYN. The first appointment went well he drew blood and found out I had Protien S deficiency which wasn't the reason I went into preterm labor but it could cause future problems. He also found that my Testosterone was 4.1. So he gave me a prescription for Spironolactone which he says should bring on my cycle and he wants to test my progesterone on day 24 to see if I ovulated. He says he wants me to take Spiro until I am 14 weeks in my next pregnancy. I have read that this is a bad drug to take while pregnant and I do not feel I really need to risk using it during pregnancy. I have called him and tried to explain I am not comfortable taking it. Am I being unreasonable?? I just cant see taking a risk that is not really necsasary. I also feel like I have lost some trust in this doctor... that he could suggest something that could possibly be not safe for the baby.
