Re: Just diagnosedFrom: Janet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 25 Sep 2003 17:40:27 -0500 (CDT)
Hi MB, You do not need to have an ultrasound to be diagnosed with PCOS. 10% of us do not have cysts, and 30% of women have poly cystic ovaries without having PCOS. Many women do get ultrasounds if there are trying to have a baby to rule out other reasons for their infertility. As for you feeling that this dr didn t explain enough to you, that's quite common. With the pressure that is on them from HMOs to "get them in and get them out", I think that is sometimes the reason that people feel rushed when they have a visit. I also think there are a certain percentage of us that "sheep" and really dont press for info. If you want more info from your doctor, come prepared with written questions to ask. Most doctors will not take offense to that. Many will be more than happy that you did, giving them a chance to explain things as efficiently as they can. If this doctor gets defensive about questions, looking for another doctor might be a good idea.
