PCOS and cysts bursting?

Another question for you guys. About a month ago I had a sharp pain in my lower right abdomen. I ended up going to the ER because it was getting worse and was on my right side. By the time the ER dr saw me, the pain was mostly gone, and he said that it was probably a cyst bursting since it was only painful for a few hours and the pain did stop. I thought that the cysts associated with PCOS were very small and didn't cause any problems. Is it normal for one to burst every once in awhile? Should I expect that it'll happen again? The ER dr did not do any tests, as he said they would not be able to tell anything from them. Has anyone had a similar experience?
