I take Armour Thyroid and also Metformin. I have yet to have any sort
of reaction or side effect of either. I have been on Armour a lot
longer then I have been on the Metformin and have noticed only the
regular side effects from metformin, nothing else. My thyroid levels
are normal and I no longer have the hypoglycemic attacks like I did
before I started taking the Metformin.
Hope this helps. I dont forsee a dr giving you the two medications with
a "known" side effect without telling you.

>>>Hi Nan: I had treatment for hyperthyroid this year back in April...I am a type II diabetic...At the time of diagnosis my blood sugar started going up very high and they had to increase my glucophage from 850mg. twice a day to 1000mg. twice a day...However after treament for hyperthyroid disease (Iodine ablation therapy) I became hypothyroid in 2 weeks and my blood sugar was going very very low...I had to cut my dosage in half 500mg twice a day..They then started me on Synthroid and blood sugar got a little better but still on same dosage 500mg.twice a day. I know for a fact that hypothyroid causes low blood sugars....I have asked my doctor and the pharmacist about the meds interacting and looked it up on the internet but I cannot find anything definite. But from my experience the two things are interconnected....I will keep in touch and let you know when my thyroid condition has stabilized if I am still on the same dosage...It is always a good idea to talk to other people in your situation because this is the only way that you can find out whether your situation is unique or otherwise...Good luck to you and remember to always check your blood sugar several times a day because I never had low blood sugars before until now...and this can be very dangerous to your health...
