Dramatic Weight Fluctuations

I have a close friend who has been diagnosed with PCOS, as have I. Our symptoms are wildly different, however: I'm thin, with mild facial hair and ovarian cysts, and she has no apparent cysts but body hair, hair loss, and dramatic weight fluctuations (weight will just magically pile on or drop off in weeks, unconnected to her diet or exercise). We both have ammennorhea.

I can't find anything on the internet about weight fluctuations like my friend's that aren't connected to diet or birth control pills. Has anyone ever heard of this kind of thing occurring with PCOS?

My other question: since she and I have such dramatically different symptoms, is it possible that we have two different disorders, that happen to both come under the broad heading of PCOS?

Thanks, Ali
