Starting Metformin on Monday- I have questions?!?!

Hello Ladies, Well, I am finally going on Metformin. My Dr. has prescribed 1000mg per day. I am pretty nervous due to all of the horror stories that I have heard on this board. I have decided that this weekend will be my big blowout weekend, since I will no longer be able to eat the foods that I crave. I was wondering if I should cut the pills (2 per day) in half to maybe make the side effects less. Also, has anyone experienced problems drinking wine or any other alcohol for that matter, while taking Met? Not that I am a lush or anything,(lol) but I enjoy the occassional glass of wine after work.

Any help would be much appreciated.
