I would along with everything I have read on here, get your Family Practioner to refer you to an endocrinologist, as they will better be able to determine your homone levels and do the proper tests... I too was not told until 1999 however I have been suffereing with PCOS since I was 11... I have not had proper testing however I am taking metformin because I asked to take something different besides BCP... And My OB/GYN said this is what we medication we give for PCOS...

It is very frustrating and I can truely empathize with what you are going through... The probably is very annoying, thats not a good enough answer, therefore you shouldn't have any problem getting a referel....

Another suggestion, If you can't get an endocrinologist, for whatever reason... Find a GYN who is only a gyn, not an OB/GYN... As they are more likely to help you as OB's always seem to be busy with all the mommy's to be...

GOOD LUCK!!! =)
