Re: another endo ?From: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 5 Sep 2003 00:30:40 -0500 (CDT)
Char, I just wanted to make a comment about a couple statements you made about REs. You said, "Try a Reproductive Endocrinologist if you can." and "Even if you are not interested in fertility, they seem to be more "up" on PCOS testing and treatment." It is not necessarily true that an RE is more up to date on PCOS. I spent time under the care of an RE myself at one point and the relationship was not the best b/c of the fact that I did not want to have kids. He made it known that he didn't want to treat me. And this is the attitude taken by most REs these days. This same kind of thing is also being especially noticed by women in the endo community b/c it was once thought that REs knew about endometriosis more than a regular OB/GYN but that has been changing for a while and the same is applying to the care of PCOS. Sometimes an endocrinologist can actually be more up to date on PCOS and so can an OB/GYN sometimes. Every PCOS patient has to find the dr that's right whether it be an endo, an RE, or an OB/GYN. Kristy :)
