Re: Facial Hair Disaster! Need helpFrom: Janet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 4 Sep 2003 23:22:06 -0500 (CDT)
Technically this is not true. Shaving, or cutting for that matter will not make hair grow thicker or darker, and it will not cause more to show up. If this were true, the hair on the top of your head would react the same way. Now, here is the reason that I said "technically". The beginning part of a new strand of hair is finer than the stuff that grows later. If you tweeze or wax the hair the new finer part comes up. If you shave the "middle part" is what is exposed. I do a combination of both pulling and shaving depending on how much time I wish to waste at the mirror. Spironolactone has made my facial hair alot finer but because of the effect of unborn babies, only people who can not get pregnant can take it. Most doctors require a woman to either be on birth control pills or lack the physical means to have children(hysterectomy, tubal ligation, ect.)before they prescribe it. Once off spiro, there is no problem if you become pregnant. Electrolysis and lasers are an option that I have heard a couple bad but mostly good things about, but unless some one gets me a "remove you hair for free treatment" I dont see me giving up either my tweezers or my husband's razor any time soon.
