Re: advice pleaseFrom: Randi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 1 Sep 2003 16:08:06 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, As for the weight, there's varying opinions. Some say that PCOS symptoms get BETTER if you lose weight, some say that the PCOS CAUSES the weight gain. There's DEFINITELY a connection between PCOS and diabetes. I do not have diabetes, but I am glucose intolerant, which means I have to be careful how much sugar I allow myself to intake. Your symptoms sound familiar...I have skin tags, a bit of excess hair (like really thick arm hair and leg hair, and a line from my breasts to my naval), I once went an entire YEAR w/o a period, and my biggest problem was depression. I would be okay one day and then for no reason just snap and start yelling at people, or I'd seclude myself and bawl for hours over problems that had already been solved. It was concluded (after a few years of testing) that the hormonal imbalance from PCOS was causing it. Being on birth control seems to help the hormones, and a low carb diet was helping me to lose weight (I've been bad this week!). I would love to e-mail with you, if you're interested. Have you had any trouble conceiving? My tests also came back not too irregular, and it's believed I have no cysts, yet my entire family has this history of sugar problems, mental problems, and some have had conception problems, oh, and they also seem to have menopause REALLY early, like in their thirties. All the best to you, and feel free to contact me if you'd like! Randi
