After being sent home from work today from the most unbelievable abdominal pain from menstruating, and after years of suffering with this and other symptoms, I decided to do some research. I've read a lot about PCOS, and I was wondering what the chances of me having it are... I know that it's impossible to tell if someone has it or not over the internet, and I am making a doctor appointment next week to find out, but I can't wait through the long Labor Day weekend without some kind of information.

Anyway, I am 19... I started menstruating 10 days after my 12th birthday, and I have had nothing but trouble with it since. I've read that PCOS often causes missed periods or prolonged cycles... what if you have cycles too often and they are too heavy? Can PCOS cause THAT? I went through a period of time from the day I started my period until I was 15 where it came every 3 weeks... it would last 7 days, and be so unbelievably heavy and PAINFUL... not just, "Oh, I have a 'cramp'..." It was, "OH GET ME TO THE HOSPITAL, I THINK I AM GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I would go through 10 or more maxi pads a day, and by the time I started to use tampons, I would have to wear both a tampon AND a maxi pad because it was so heavy. And whenever I would sleep, blood would ALWAYS end up in my PJs and on my bed. I remember one time I wore TWO EXTRA LONG maxi pads one-in-front-of-the-other, three pairs of shorts, and laid on top two thick blankets and a towel... 6 hours later when I woke up, it had filled up both pads, gone through the shorts AND the blankets and towel and stained the mattress. Then when I was 15, it started coming less frequently - every 6-7 weeks... then it started fluctuating from 2 weeks to 7 weeks, and in this time it got much lighter, but still painful. Then it came back full force and averaged every 4 weeks. I've been sent home from school and work several times... a few months ago, I ended up in the E.R. because of explosive pain in my abdomen 2 days after my period ended... it had started the day before lightly, and I woke up the next morning screaming in pain. I didn't know what was going on, so my mom took me to the hospital where they gave me a pelvic exam... the doctor found that my right ovary was VERY swollen after he pushed down on it (which caused me to scream because the pressure hurt), and he said I may have had a cyst RUPTURE on my ovary (which has happened to my sister), but he didn't really care about it so he just prescibed me Vioxx for the pain and I went home. I spent the next three weeks in terrible pain.

Anyway, I've recently started having acne problems, which I've never had in my entire life... there's not A LOT of acne, it's just that I get very large and extremely painful infections on my face... I get a few of them a week, and I have to 'pop' them to make them go away, because they will stay there for as long as 5 weeks if I don't, and I can't bear the pain from them (it will be so swollen and painful that the area AROND the infection will be NUMB). This causes scarring, and it's very frustrating because I wash my face 3-4 times a day. I have tried every over-the-counter medication, and I even ordered ProActive, which was $50. Nothing helps. My face is so unbelievably oily... I use Clean&Clear's oil sheets, and it takes at least 3 sheets to soak up most of the oil, even just an hour after I wash my face. I only use oil-free makeup and moisturizer, and it is still so oily. I seem to break out much worse right before my periods.

I have also been diagnosed with Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) caused from very high insulin levels. I have low blood sugar attacks like crazy, and they have worsened lately.

I am not overweight, however. I am 5'8" and weigh 122 lbs... I have, however, gained 5 lbs in the last 2 months from my overeating because of my low blood sugar attacks. I have the appetite of someone twice my size... however, unusually high metabolism runs in my family.

My blood pressure level isn't high either... it's actually very, very low.

And my hair has been falling out since 9th grade... I have very unusually thick hair, and it's probably about 1/2 as thick as it should be... I have no balding spots, but I can run a brush through my hair and run my fingers through it after and will pull out a handful. My bathroom floor is always covered in hair. I also have to use dandruff shampoo every time I wash my hair because if I don't, I get SEVERE dandruff. Flakes everywhere...

I have severe bloating problems, and I retain water like crazy. I've had dark facial hair since I was in 4th grade... it's not REALLY dark, but it's a lightbrown color and is a little bit noticeable if I don't bleach it. I've also noticed breast hair, stomach hair, lower back hair, and finger and toe hair.

I also have severe clotting when I menstruate. I know that *some* clotting is normal, but I have a TON.

If anyone has actually taken the time to read my novel here, I thank you very much... if anyone can give me some insight, it would be very much appreciated.
