PCOS and ACNE treatment Re: Boils??!!!From: Ron (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Aug 2003 08:02:52 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Beca, Boils and be caused when an oversecretion of oil clogs pores and becomes a source of infection. It is basically cystic ACNE and is related to hormones. Shaving and plucking hair can worsen things because ingrown hairs also cause boils. Shaving too close because of a passion to hide hirsuitism is not helping. It also damages the skin which increases susceptibility to infection. Treating with diet to reduce insulin production and blood sugar rises will help to reduce all the symptoms of PCOS including oil production and body hair. Weight loss will be your guide to how successful you are. You might want to talk to your doc about also going on long term antibiotics like doxycycline (or even accutane which should be the last resort.) You may want to check with your doc to see if you are taking enough metformin. Reducing your intake of refined carbohydrates will reduce your need for metformin, but get a blood glucose test to guide you. Good luck..
