Re: Boils??!!!From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 27 Aug 2003 21:24:38 -0500 (CDT)
Finally I hear someone else going thru this. I am 24 and single. I was just diagnosed with PCOS a month ago. I am now on Metformin 1000mg per day. Anyways, all my life I have been plaqued with boils. I get them everywhere i.e. underarms, inner thighs, under breasts, behind ears, under stomach, and so on. I have many scars from them. Some women dream about having a perfect body, I dream of having clear skin. That's another thing, I have always been complimented on my great clear skin (face). I also worry about a partner seeing those areas that have scars (thinking it may be a STD which it's not). Which cause me to hardly ever wear sleeveless shirts. As to what doctor's have told me, they have always said some people are just more susceptible to boils especially if they are overweight. I have never been sold on this idea. I have yet to ask my doctor now since diagnosis of PCOS. I would like to know if there is a connection to PCOS and Boils. As for advice: When you have a boil you can put warm wet towels on them to bring a head on it so it drains. Shaving your armpits helps as well. You should change razor's every other time. Also putting vicks helps to reduce the swelling. And keeping the area VERY CLEAN. Lever2000 is great. When you have a boil you must continuely clean that area as to prevent further infections. Actually the doctors say you should take antibiotics when you have one. I have had so many I just stopped bothering. As far as preventing them. I have tried many things from: not shaving, not eating dairy, and not using anti-persperant deodrant. I was told Anti-persisperant causes the pores to clog possibly causing boils. Also if you are overwieght as I am, you should not wear certain panties. I only use Lane Bryant's underwear. They are pricy but they don't pull on your pubic hair nor irritate my inner thighs. Also you should know the boils act as tunnels too. They actually keep expanding under the skin causing more sac's of puss. For example you may notice a boil in the same location as to a previous one. Because it was never drained out all the way. Well now you know everything I know about boils. PLEASE if anyone know's anything else about boils PLEASE PLEASE let me know. How to prevent them? How to get rid of them? Any medications? And if this is linked to PCOS? Thanks in advance, Beca
