Re: I need help on losing weight....PLEASE....From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 27 Aug 2003 14:26:16 -0500 (CDT)
I watch my calories and fat, actually I follow the Slim Fast (shake for breakfast, fruit for snack, meal bar for lunch, fruit for afternoon snack and a salad with a healthy low fat meal for dinner). Many people follow the low-carb diets but I have tried them and although I would have sucess, after two weeks I would get very sick. The Slim Fast plan is easy to follow as far as meal preparation and calorie/fat counting and not too expensive. I have cut things like white bread, pasta, crackers etc. (things with white flour) from my diet. I do eat potatos and rice (maybe 1/2 cup once or twice a week). Cutting the bad carbs may be the hardest part because with PCOS we crave these foods. I know that you do not have insurance but for me being on Metformin has helped tremendously with the cravings and I do not have a hard time not eating the bad stuff. And as I am sure you have been told drink LOTS OF WATER--at least 64 oz. per day. I always see a difference in my weight loss when I do not drink enough water. I walk 2 or 3 miles every day this is both relaxing and healthy and 45 min. of cardio 3-4 times a week. I was diagnosed last December and started dieting mid-January; I have since lost 61 pounds, but I also can gain the weight back very quickly, one weekend of weakness can blow two weeks worth of dieting. My condition has improved tremendously, there is a big improvement with every follow-up labwork done. This condition is very hard to deal with and I understand your frustration. We have to work so much harder than those without this problem and at times it seems so unfair. But stay strong and come here often for support.
