Re: lief...I am not crazy....my dr. diagnosed with PCOS!From: click (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 26 Aug 2003 11:48:11 -0500 (CDT)
That is spectacularly wonderful! When I was diagnosed, I had just switched doctors (I was 16) because every doctor I went to said that I was too young for them to investigate anything gynecologically wrong with me since I was not active at the time, said that women's periods are screwy until they are in their 20's, etc etc, and I was gaining unexplained weight hardly eating anything and everywhere I went the dr's told me to loose weight--well I didn't have energy to work out, I felt like shit all the time, I wasn't depressed or stressed, I hardly ate anything at all (very small portions-rarely hungry) but was overweight, etc etc etc..No period for more than a year, too. They told me to wait. I haddn't had one for 6 months so the doctor blew me off-when It had been more than a year and I switched doctors, they nailed it without bloodwork and said they would diagnose after the bloodwork was back, and they were right. My gyno put me on progesterone for 5 days at a high dosage to induce a period that lasted me 30 days on the nose and made me loose almost 10 pounds. Way to start my sophomore year, huh? When t he period was over, I started birth control pills, and about two weeks after that I was started on metformin, which didn'tw ork out too well for me so I switched to glucophage XR about two months later and started loosing weight as effortlessly as I had put it on. I came to a plateau about 6 months after that and haven't really been able to loose weight since then, but I know there is room for improvement in my excerscise plan, though my eating is mostly under control (as it was never a problem). Anyhow, I wish you lots of luck, you're going in the right direction and I am ecstatic for you that you've found good doctors.
