Hey, I don't know if you're still around to check this, but you absolutly are not too young. I am 19, and I was diagnosed with PCOS & insulin resistance at 16 years old. First off: find another doctor. The doctors I went to that told me I was too young to have regular periods--when I'd had my first one four years before- and that I needed to "eat less" and "loose weight" to improve my gynecological and general health when I was eating hardly anything and gaining weight--those are the types you don't need to see. Call around to some endocronologists and gynecologists and ask their assistant or whoever to find out if they are familiar with PCOS.

here's what my symptoms were that made me really try to find someone who knew what was wrong (a new doctor i found suggested all my complaints were related adn that i had pcos-and she was right): excessive weight gain, rapidly (i was gaining 10 lbs every 2 months or so, easily) no period for more than a year--got my first one, then another one a month later, then it was two months, then four months, then 8, etc--finally more than a year skin tags dark skin areas around the bse of my neck, armpits, and groin

....yep.

good luck to you babe, i had a big improvement in my symptoms when i started on birth control & glucophage.
