New PCOS diagnosis

I hope someone can help me. I don't know where to begin to educate myself. 5 months off birth control pills, no period, given preliminary diagnosis of PCO, given progesterone challenge and will take final pill tomorrow. Thyroid tests are normal. Assuming that I do have withdrawal bleeding where do I go from here? We want to conceive. My OBGYN makes it sound like the only logical next step is Clomid. Is that right? Is there any other testing that should be done before Clomid? What about all this I hear about insuline resistance. No one has discussed testing for that at all? I could really use some guidance, thanks.
