Re: PCOS and regular ovulation & glucophageFrom: Janet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 19 Aug 2003 16:02:40 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Kris, Just wanted to expand on what Aylsaa has already said. Glucophase does not directly bring on ovulation. What it does do is help you insulin work better so you produce less. High insulin levels can, but do not always cause us not to ovulate. There are many women here that have had children prior to taking glucophase or, for that matter any fertility drugs. I think there is such a problem with the name Polycystic ovarian syndrome. It makes people think that that is were the problem is. The reality is that the cysts like oll the other unpleasantness of this syndrome are side effects and not the cause. And like all the other side effects, not every one gets all the symptoms. I am most definately insulin resistant, but I do not have any cysts. It is also possible to have the cysts and not have the syndrome. I am in 100% agreement with Alyssa that if you need insulin sensitizers, be it glucophase or avandia, you need to be on them.PCOS is a progressive syndrome that can lead to obesity, infertility, diabetes, high cholestral, high blood pressure, stroke, and liver and heart issues.
