Re: New member, just got back from my doctor and...From: Jennifer (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 18 Aug 2003 17:20:54 -0500 (CDT)
I was diagnosed with PCOS 3 yrs ago when I was 18 I am now 21 and it seems to me that most DRs have no clue about the disease. I have normal insulin levels, I was the same as you the only thing abnormal was the horomone levels. I do have the PCOS cysts, but some times they are not very big and can be missed very easily in an ultra sound, when mine were first seen I had a internal ultra sound, it is where they stick this thing up the vaginal canal, i will addmitt it hurt because they had to push on differnt organs but they could see more being right up close. I am taking Advandia. I have been on it for 10 days now and I already have changes in my body. My facial hair is thining, I can feel my period fixing to come on and I have even lost two pounds while being on it. It is a hard ordeal this disease, because even DRs can't explain where it comes from or what causes it and what is the best way to cure it. All I know is that since I was diagnosed I have seen more and more cases than I ever thaught I would have. I dont know if just because I know what it is means I pay attention more to the name or if it is just so common. I know how the stress is with this, me and my husband have been trying to concieve for two yrs. I want a child so badly, and just a couple of weeks ago he found an article in a magazine about Avandia being used on PCOS patients wanting to concieve. 90% concieved while on the medication. I dont have the sideeffects I did with glucophage, and I feel great. God promised us a daughter named Hannah and I know she is comeing soon, but in his time not mine, but i am preparing myself. My advice to you would be to find a good Gyno, or endocrinologist and some good websites to learn more. I will admit I dont know much my husband knows alot more than me, because I was so angry when dianosed with this pest that I couldn't think start I knew it meant maybe not having children. I have since come to my senses. Ask you DR about Avandia, I will warn you this medication makes your blood sugar plumit. You would have to eat more things that turn into glucose, since your insulin is normal. If you want more advice or just a friend I will always right back, i know how it is to be afraid of this new disease, dont be though it can be overcome.
