Re: diet and weightlossFrom: Jules (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 16 Aug 2003 04:16:05 -0500 (CDT)
Weight and weight loss is a huge issue for me but I find that if I really do stop and think about it and question myself I find the real reasons that I gain weight again or stop losing. I appreciate that part of PCOS is Weight issues however I really do believe it is possible to maintain a healthyweight providing right choices are being made. I had an episode at the emergency clinic about a year ago where the gynae registrar was called in to see me. She had read my notes and my diagnosis and was expecting to be presenting with a grossly overweight woman, she even told me she was shocked! The thing is you see that I was once 92kg at diagnosis, I then took control of things getting down to 69kg... admittedly this ranges during my cycle but I have learned to eat healthy, maintain adequate exercise regimes and be in a right frame of mind. Often it is easy to to belive that it isn't possible. I was (well still am occasionally) a terrible binger but that is associated to by BSL - this is the problem I have with weight - because eating a balanced diet and exercising works!!!! It truly does - but it is a full ifestyle change and it is forever - start how you mean to go on!!!! Eating carrot sticks and drinking water followed by working out 7 times a week my work initally :) but trying to maintain that forever is the issue - we then regain our weight and wonder why when the answer is right before us! I am not saying that it is easy or that my way will work for everyone - but what I am saying is it is about true control and honesty with yourself! PCOS controls so much of my life still - irregular bleeding - painful cycles - extreme fatigue - moods - issues with blood sugars - excess hair - but one thing I cna control (WITH GREAT ATTITUDE AND EXTREME DIFFICULTY & NOW A LIFETIMER AT WEIGHTWATHCHERS I MIGHT ADD!!!) is that awful weight. Good luck for your weight loss - I really hope you are able to find that head space as it is such a good place to be and an ongoing fight that can be won! *hugs*
