Re: Side AffectsFrom: Janet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 15 Aug 2003 16:51:13 -0500 (CDT)
I also am hotter than normal on metformin. Kicking this one around with the endo, we are theorizing that the change in my hormone(even for the better) might be causing this. Just a theory, she really isnt all that sure about why. As for the acne and hair issues, are you trying to get pregnant??? If not, you might want to suggest spironolactone to your endo. ITs done wonders for my hair and though I dont have an acne issue, I have heard that it does good things there as well. You can not take spironolactone if you are trying to have a baby or even if there is a possiblity of becoming pregnant because of it causing birth defects. What spiro does is lower testosterone, and during the initial weeks of pregnancy is when the sex organs are being developed. By the time that you would realize that you were pregnant, the damage would already be done. Most doctors will not let rx spironolactone unless you are on the pill or are no longer capable of bearing chinldren. Once you no longer take spironolactone, there is no problems as far as becoming pregnant at a later time.
