I have pcos....I also have congestive heart failure....asthma and liver enlargement. All three present with shortness of breath at rest. I suggest they do liver tests to rule out enlarged liver,.echocardiography and spirometry testing(asthma challenge tests). Chances are that it may just be due to lack of exercise, deconditioning or anxiety(as I was told for years)....it is a sign of CHF when you cannot breath when laying down,,.especially flat. If in US...a simple BNP test which is a blood test can rule out CHF when other tests cannot.CHF is very, very hard to diagnose in women.Believe me!YOu may be anemic or you may be producing too many red blood cells...(polycythemia secondary or vera).{Please research} Please do take care and if it persists....you be proactive in getting necessary tests done.It was not till my tongue...lips and fingernails turned cyanotic that I got my diagnosis to a malady that I had always suspected. Not being able to breath is terrible and scarey.Pulmonary hypertension is another one that is hard to diagnose but seems to fit with many women who at one time took all different sorts of diet pills. YOu may have good oxygen levels in your finger but not arterial. Take it from me....I have suffered with this for years being told it was anxiety. CHF waxes and wanes....you can go through episodes of it but never be cured. I was hospitalized that last while several times due to increasing shortness of breath.I am 42. Prior to that...I was never obese so that is not a reason for chf.Non smoker etc. Just old syndrome x.
