I'm starting to be afraid I never will! Years from now she'll still be
in there.... ordering in pizza and taking correspondence courses, or
something... *sigh*. We had a failed induction last Tuesday and
tomorrow's our next OB appt to figure out what to do to get her out.
Darn the OB's taht all told me we'd be doing well to make it to 32 weeks
or who freaked out and put me on bedrest at 34. I assumed at 37 weeks
I'd go off bedrest and start moving and she'd just fall out! Ironic how
she's all comfy in there now!

Tric, painful sex can happen for many reasons, including hormonal,
infections (like yeast or bacteria), irritations, and allergies to
certain lubricants/soaps. You should definitely discuss this with your
doctor. Consider seeing a specialist for this. There are doctors out
there (depending where you live) that specialize only in vulvar and
vaginal problems and problems having sex. I would suggest you don't
jump to conclusions just because you read that others with pcos have
that same complaint. There are other hormonal problems that can cause
you to have painful sex. Again, you need to discuss this as well as
your other concerns with a doctor. There are many women out there with
this problem who have gotten help and are able to have sex again. Good
luck.

I was diagnosed with PSO at 18 after cramps so bad I was rushed to the
hospital for apendicitis! The OB/Gyn did not explain much about it to
me, other than that I would have to start birth control.
Everything was fine until college when my migranes became more frequent.
The PA told me to stop taking the pill NOW otherwise I might DIE!!
(direct quote - a little alarmist to say the least!). I stopped taking
the pill and also graduated which meant that I no longer had insurance.
6 months of no period and severe acne (which the pills never did get rid
of completely)later and I moved to NYC and saw a new doctor. She also
diagnosed me with PSO and explained a little more to me. I went on
Mircette and things seem to have gotten worse. I have gained over 20
pounds in a year and my hirsutism is really bad. I don't have migranes,
and my acne is at least bearable at the moment. The worst thing is that
I seem to have chronic yeast infections. I obviously told my new doctor
about this during my 15 visits to her this year and she doesn't seem to
be bothered by it - just keeps prescribing Mircette and Diflucan.
Who should I be seeing and what should they be giving me? I am really
concerned and I don't really know what to do!
Sorry so long, and thanks!

If you still live in NYC you are in luck. There are several PCOS
experts and endocrinologists in NYC as well as a fantastic doctor(who
unfortunately doesn't take any insurance, but is well worth the price)
who specializes in vaginal problems, including yeast infections. I am
not sure if we are allowed to post names of doctors in this forum. Can
someone let me know how to give Jennifer some names?

That would be very helpful - I made my email unanonymous, so you can
email me the info if you like. I am very tired of dealing with docs who
just throw pills at me and are surprised when I question them. I think
my insurance covers only 3 endocrinologists in NYC, so hopefully one of
them is a good one! I would also LOVE to get rid of the non stop yeast
infection. Diflucan twice a month doesn't help, monostat, metrogel you
name it nothing helps. I will pay for that kind of relief!!!!! :)
Thanks much for your help and I will look for your email (if you feel
comfortable with that.

I'm on the pill and I want to start trying to get pregnant around
December. What steps do I need to take as far as getting off of the
pill and on to something else? I'm pretty new to PCOS, so I don't know
what other meds are available to keep the cysts from forming other than
birth control. Thanks.

I am not a minor but just 30 yrs old. I was just reciently diagnosed
with this disorder. I have yet to understand how I was diagnosed after
just blood test and nothing else. I have a complicated back ground with
my periods and I am willing to learn about this disorder. There are no
books in my library at home and need to know more. If you can help me I
would appreciate it a lot. Right now I am on Glucophage twice a day and
provera every other month and this is not working. I have a cyst the
size is 4.7 on my right ovary and they say there is nothing they can do
for me. What is my next step?

Subject: The cost of PCOS
Message-ID: <200308130042.h7D0g9310253@dns.obgyn.net>
Has anyone added up what the cost of this disease to us financially? The
multiple medications, doctors visits, days off from work due to stress.
Because of this disease, I have hypertension and depression. I am on
four medications with a $20 copay for each: 1 for hypertension, 1 for
depression, one for acne, and Glucophage (of course). I use to be on BC
pills and may have to go back on them. That is almost $100 a month in
copays for medicines alone. Not to mention copays for doctor's visits
every three months, etc. Of course, the "cure" is to lose weight. The
only way I have found to lose weight is to eat practically nothing and
workup three days a week. Add the cost of the gym to that, and eating
correctly is not cheap! It costs less to eat starchy fatty foods than it
does to eat healthy. Add in the costmetic treatments for removal of
hair, oily skin, etc, etc.... need I go on.
I am fortunate in the fact that I did not have difficulty in getting
pregnant with my children. I do not know the cost of infertility
treatments and the like, but I assume they are high as well.
My observation is this. The money is worth it because the end outcome
would be terrible. If we do not take care of this "situation" early (I
mean before 35), we are faced with future problems. I was almost 40
when I was diagnosed with hypertension. When I was diagnosed with PCOS,
they didn't know what they know now. This disease left totally
untreated will lead to hypertension, diabetes, cancer, and looking
pretty awful (fat, hairless, acne, and a beard... YUCK)
This observation can be provided to any husband that needs reminding how
important it is that we take care of the problem now.

I was wondering if taking Accutane could have an affect on whether or
not you have PCOS as a result. I starting taking Accutane in 2000 and
right after I stop taking the medication is when my menstruatin became
irregular. In 2002, it stop all together and just recently I became
diagonsed with PCOS. In addition, however, the darken of skin around my
neck and between my legs all always exist. I have not been able to lose
weight. I am in need of a Breast Reduction however, my insurance
company will not provide it for me because they say I need to lose
